Building smartymockups.comwas one hell of a journey.
When I launched the site back in 2016, I honestly had no idea where it would lead. I didn’t expect to reach so many talented designers, studios, and brands around the world — and I definitely didn’t expect to see my mockups used to visualize such a wide range of real products.
Over the years, I’ve seen them everywhere: on TV, on billboards, in brochures, presentations, and campaigns I would never have imagined back then. Since 2016, more than 92,000 mockups have been sold — a number that still feels slightly unreal to me.
At some point, though, I had to make a decision.
I could either push Smarty Mockups further — turn it into a larger marketplace, grow the platform, add more systems, more complexity — or take a step back, simplify things, and focus on what I genuinely enjoy most: creating mockups.
I chose the second path. It’s the safer option, yes — but more importantly, it’s the one that fits my personality. I love sitting in front of the computer, experimenting, learning new 3D techniques, and turning them into practical, production-ready mockups. That’s the part of this work that gives me energy.
Building a fully corporate, large-scale platform would absolutely be an exciting challenge — and for many people, it would be the right move. But with how fast the market is changing, the rise of AI tools, shifting habits among designers, and the growing complexity of taxes, maintenance, and technical overhead, I decided to go with a more sustainable and comfortable direction.
For now, smartymockups.com remains online as a catalog and a living archive — a place that shows what this project has been and still serves as a gateway to the complete bundle. Customers who previously purchased mockups will continue to have enough time to download their files.
From this point on, my full focus goes into mockups-design.com. That’s where new isolated packaging mockups will appear. That’s where the collection will grow. And that’s where all future work will live — both on the site itself and inside the complete bundle.
Nothing is disappearing overnight. Nothing is being taken away without warning. This is simply a shift toward a setup that lets me do my best work — and keep doing it consistently.
If you’ve been here over the years: thank you. You helped turn a personal side project into something much bigger than I ever expected. I truly hope you’ll stay with me on mockups-design.com and continue this journey together.
